Each one of us is unique in their own way. Therefore, It is always a challenge to understand others and to make ourselves understood by others. It is especially difficult in a work environment where we constantly have to interact with different people, conduct meetings or make presentations.
So, it becomes all the more important to understand others and present ourselves accordingly.
Authors of this book have helped us in doing exactly that. They have characterized the different behavior types into five different groups. They have taken examples of CEO and the upper management to illustrate their case, but it could easily be applied to anyone. Each chapter elaborates on one of those five personality types.
Five different personalities are
a) Charismatic: Oprah Winfrey, Jack Welch
b) Thinkers: Bill Gates, Warren Buffet
c) Skeptic: Larry Ellison Tom Seibel
d) Follower: Carly Fiorina, Peter Coors
e) Controller: Martha Stewart, Ross Perot
Anyone who wants to pitch their views to somebody could very well do so by following the strategy laid out in this book. Authors have also given many examples from their own experience where they had to present their ideas to a wide variety of individuals, what were the steps they took or hurdles they faced. Giving the names of the CEOs and characterizing them under one of the personality type helps the reader to associate with that personality type by putting a name and face to it.
There are successful leaders in every personality type. Book illustrates a systematic approach as to what to keep in mind when we are presenting to or working with one of these personality types. This book in no way picks winners or favorites, it just illustrates what each of these personality type likes, how they behave, how they make their decisions and what to expect when working with them.
